The 12 Trips of Christmas: Home for the Holidays
If you are enjoying Christmas at home this year and haven’t been able to experience the holiday in a distant land, try bringing other customs and global traditions into your kitchen with a new recipe. Our holiday video (above) was inspired by a hot chocolate recipe we learned from friends in South America (recipe below). The recipe has become a favorite tradition in our kitchen and each year, we try holiday recipes from other corners of the globe. The Christmas spirit is alive and well in most of the world and when we share different customs and traditions with each other, we realize how incredible our world is. Enjoy and have a delightful holiday!
- 1 ½ Cups Dark Chocolate Chips
- ½ Cup Boiling Water
- 1 8 oz Carton of Heavy Cream
- ¼ Cup Red Chili Pepper
- Marshmallows and candy canes for topping
Start by heating a kettle of water, have the hot water ready before starting the hot chocolate. Slowly melt the chocolate chips in a medium sauce pan, stir continuously. As the chocolate is melting, slowly add the hot water. When chips are completely melted, add the heavy cream and stir to combine. Next, add the chili pepper, (we like our hot chocolate spicy, so a ¼ cup is perfect for us; add in a little bit at a time and taste occasionally to make sure there is the right amount of heat). The heavy cream should bring the chocolate to a smooth drinkable consistency. If it is still too thick, add more hot water. Ladle into mugs and top with a favorite topping. Sip slowly and enjoy!
